Grand Rapids Public Museum

Say "planetarium" in West Michigan and everyone knows you're talking about the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium inside the Public Museum’s Van Andel Museum Center in Grand Rapids.

Named after the Grand Rapids-born astronaut who lost his life in the 1967 Apollo 1 spacecraft fire, the Chaffee Planetarium is a state-of-the-art sky theater complete with computerized Digistar and laser projectors, producing multiple video and still images and incredible special effects, accompanied by high-powered digital sound.

Catch the classic rock shows – Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, you name it – with cosmic laser lights and mind-busting images.

Seasonal sky shows and special themed productions educate young and old alike about the stars above and our place in the universe.

3:00 pm shows free with Museum admission or $3 for Planetarium show only (Note: 3 PM shows are not offered every day. Please refer to the Calendar for a complete schedule)
